Athlete of the Day

One way the Celtic Arts Foundation helps to preserve, celebrate  and perpetuate aspects of Scottish, Irish and Celtic culture is by hosting events and competitions.  Always an extremely popular part of our annual Highland Games, the traditional athletic or "heavy" events provide the opporutnity for experienced and novice competitors to test their skills in these ancient games of brawn.  Athletes at the Skagit Valley Highland Games compete in several different events including:Athletes at the Skagit Valley Highland Games compete in several different events including:Rob Robertson Athlete of the Day Trophy

In 2006, the Celtic Arts Foundation established the "Rob Robertson Memorial Athlete of the Day" trophy, in memory of a long time volunteer and supporter of the Celtic Arts Foundaiton.  Rob had been with us since the beginning of the Skagit Valley Highland Games in 1995, volunteering his time and talents to help organize and orchestrate the athletic events.  He loved all things Scottish, the pipes, the Games - and gave tirelessly of himself to help make ours the best it could be.

In Celtic lore, the boar was a symbol of strength and Rob always hoped to see that symbol worked into our logos and promotional materials.  We know he'd be pleased and honored to see this trophy - celebrating that which he worked so hard to bring about.

We'll proudly display the winner's names on this page.  The winner of the Rob Robertson Memorial Trophy, also receives a smaller "keeper" version of this perpetual trophy.
