This weekend workshop is an incredible opportunity to learn from one of the world’s greatest!
The Celtic Arts Foundation is pleased to invite select Highland pipers to join us for a piobaireachd workshop with Andrew Wright, one of the recognized masters of ceol mor in the world. He won the Oban and Inverness Gold Medals for piobaireachd in 1970, was Piper to the Lord Provost of Glasgow, and is a judge for the RSPBA. This invitation-only workshop weekend is a unique opportunity to develop and refine skills while learning from an extraordinary talent.
This immersive workshop takes place Friday, March 24th to Sunday, March 26th, 2017 from 9:00AM-4:00PM daily. We are pleased to be able to offer participants discounted lodging at a nearby hotel and flexible meal options. Discounted rates are available at the Best Western Plus Skagit Valley Inn, a short drive from the Littlefield Celtic Center. Complimentary breakfast is included in your stay. Participants also have the option to pre-purchase a lunch to be delivered to the Littlefield Celtic Center, or visit one of the many restaurants in downtown Mount Vernon, just a short walk from our facility.
Curriculum & Daily Schedule:
Intense group study of tunes set by the Piobaireachd Society for Senior, Gold, and Silver Medal Competitions. Also to be covered as time allows: tunes and subjects of study that may hold a special interest to individuals and the group. The tentative schedule will be:
- Check-in, Friday morning, 8:45
- Group study, 9:00am until 12:00 noon
- Lunch break from Noon until 1:00pm
- Group study, 1:00pm until 4:00pm
- Friday and Saturday evenings – optional piping performance (mini-Ceilidh) at the Littlefield Celtic Center
- A more detailed schedule will be provided to registered attendees
Costs and what’s included:
$335 per person for the workshop tuition. Breakfast is included at the hotel for those staying there, and we have arranged a lunch option for those who may be interested (1 lunch Friday, Saturday and Sunday for $30), otherwise workshop attendees are on their own for all meals. The recommended hotel is not within easy walking distance, so carpools will be encouraged.
What to bring:
Please bring a long low-pitched chanter and some spare reeds. Andrew insists chanters be in tune. Music books such as the Piobaireachd Society, Kilberry, Donald MacDonald’s, MacArthur/MacGregor, and any other manuscripts or collections you wish to share with the group. Be sure to have something to write with and to write on. Recording devices are optional.
